booksvscigarettes: Lee Miller, Ady Fidelin, Nusch Eluard, Leonora Carrington by Roland Penrose, 1954. Lee Miller. Not only was she one of the more intense surrealists I’ve come across (that breast on a plate photograph is seriously disturbing), she was also a photojournalist for Vogue Magazine during WWII (Vogue! War correspondent!). Some of my favorite photographs are by her: Hitler’s bathtub, the fire masks (Diane Arbus before Diane Arbus), the cultural artefacts broken by war (the typewriter, the grand piano) etc. etc. Ok, this post didn’t have any particular direction.
